Citizens of heaven: Resident on Earth

May 25, 2010 by admin

What does it mean for us to live for Jesus in affluent, suburban Perth?
How do we
do life and work as residents of Perth in a way that demonstrates our citizenship is in heaven?

This two week mini-series reveals that these questions are the same for Christians in all times and places. We will follow Paul’s first foray as a missionary into Europe. In Acts 16 Paul and his companion Silas find themselves in Philippi, an important city proud of its alignment with Roman power.  By another power altogether, that of the risen Jesus, Paul and Silas establish an alternative city within that city, one whose residents owe their allegiance to a King other than Caesar.

Then in Acts 17 Paul confronts a city proud of its intellectualism: Athens.  Although Paul’s circumstances and methodology are different, he presents the Athenians with the same message as the Philippians; the resurrected Jesus is the Truth at which all intellectual searches must arrive.

Two cities, two sets of circumstances, but one message; Residents of earth are called to be citizens of heaven.
